Ray W. Fickes, Jr., 78, of 529 Coldspring Road, Fayetteville, died Friday, July 11, 2008 in Chambersburg Hospital. Born April 21, 1930 in Fayetteville, he was a son of the late Ray W. Sr. and Hilda Shaffer Fickes. Ray served in the US Army during the Korean War and was employed by Hess Manufacturing in Quincy for more than 45 years. He was active with the Fayetteville Athletic Association. An avid outdoorsman, Ray enjoyed outdoor work and hunting. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's athletic events. His beloved with, Bernice Whitmore Fickes, whom he married March 4, 1950, preceded him in death on November 5, 2006.

He is survived by two daughters, Deborah R. Reasner and husband Doug of Chambersburg, and Wanda J. Fickes at home; two grandchildren, Kiley R. Davidson and husband Bobby of Shippensburg and Travis R. Reasner and wife Jessica of Fayetteville; and three great-grandchildren, Elliana R., Liryn B., and Lundyn N. Reasner, all of Fayetteville. He is also survived by three sisters; Ilo Johnson and husband Eugene of Chambersburg, Darlene Hippenstill and husband Dave of Shippensburg, and Bonnie Carbaugh and husband Harry of Roxbury; and four brothers, Roger Fickes and wife Connie of Orrtanna, Larry Fickes and wife Bonnie of Fayetteville, Rick Fickes and wife Tina of Chambersburg, and Mike Fickes and wife Barb of Fayetteville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jay, Garnet, and Ted Fickes; and a sister, Penny Fickes.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 16, 2008 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. John Pogue will officiate. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00AM-1:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home.
