Eugene R. "Gene" George, 82, of Chambersburg, PA, peacefully went to be with his Lord on Wednesday morning, September 1, 2010 from his home. He had been involved in an automobile accident on April 18, 2005, and was critically ill since August 22, 2010. Born September 1, 1928 in Altenwald, PA, he was a son of the late Harry Edward and Ruth Blanche Spangler George. Gene was employed for 39 years at Landis Tool, retiring in December of 1989. He then worked part-time for 14 years at the Butcher Shoppe in Chambersburg. He was a member of New Franklin Assembly of God and a former long-time member of Glen Furney Assembly of God. Gene enjoyed cutting grass.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Long Laudeman George, whom he married April 15, 1989; five children, Eugene R. George, Jr. and wife Chaleo of Browns Mill, NJ, Florence Hammond and husband Fred, Sharon Kline and husband Denny, and Saundra Sanders and husband Luther, all of Waynesboro, and Jeffrey L. George and wife Ada of Chambersburg; a step-son, Jeffrey R. Laudeman of Shippensburg; fourteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Charles George of Duncannon and a sister, Rozella George Friese of Fayetteville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife whom he married April 22, 1946, Ruth Lorraine Reed George on July 8, 1988; three brothers, Clarence, Clinton, and Melvin George; and a great-grandson, Brendon.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 4, 2010 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. William Dick will officiate. Interment will follow in Harbaugh Church Cemetery near Waynesboro, PA. The family will receive friends from 9:00-10:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
