Joe H. Shaffer, age 77, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away at his home on Sunday, August 15, 2010. Born May 31, 1933 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Joseph M. and Mary Bumbaugh Shaffer.
A dedicated worker, Joe worked in maintenance as a welder at Mt. Cydonia Sand, plant 1 for Valley Quarries for 43 years. Prior to his illness, Joe enjoyed walking in the mountains and watching old western TV shows and Movies.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Virginia Shifflett Shaffer, whom he married on June 7, 1952; his children, Mickle J. (Mike) Shaffer of Fayetteville, PA and Bryan K. Shaffer of Spring Run, PA; his grandchildren, Kristina Shaffer; Michael Shaffer; Mindy Knoll; Kyle Shaffer; Nicole Shaffer; and Tiffany Shaffer; seven great grandchildren; and nine siblings, Ralph of Chambersburg, David of Waynesboro, Richard of Waynesboro, John of Mont Alto, Donna Hobbs of Marion, Dan of Fayetteville, Leah Kipe of Culbertson, Donald of Pond Bank, and Roger of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Ester Yeager and Kenneth Shaffer.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 10 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Pastor Staci Geesaman will officiate The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 18 from 7-9 PM in the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
