| | | | | | | | | Gladys J. "Butchie" Holobinko, 65, of Chambersburg, died on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 in the Chambersburg Hospital, after her battle with cancer. Born on June 6, 1944 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late John G. and Rosalie Reisher Lightner. A 1962 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Butchie retired from Embarq (formerly Sprint) on March 17, 2006, where she devoted 41 years of service. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Chambersburg. An avid reader, she was a member of numerous book clubs. She loved spending time at the beach and taking bus trips with her husband, Chuck. Her family and friends will greatly miss her wonderful cooking and baking.
Butchie is survived by her husband of almost 45 years, Charles W. Holobinko, whom she married on July 17, 1964; two sisters, Sondra Laird of Fayetteville and Donna Marasco of McKeesport, PA; one brother, John G. Lightner Jr. of Chambersburg; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great great nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Zita Wagaman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 6, 2009 in the chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg, with Rev. Harold E. Yeager officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 PM on Sunday and from 10-11 AM on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 384 Floral Avenue, or the Church of the Brethren, 260 S. 4th St., both of Chambersburg, PA 17201; or to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 2325 Country Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
