Mark L. Christman, 63, of Chambersburg, died unexpectedly on Sunday, August 15, 2010 in the emergency room of Chambersburg Hospital. Born September 30, 1946 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Morris S. "Buck" and Jane Brownlee Christman. Mark was a graduate of the former St. Thomas High School and served in Vietnam with the US Army during the Vietnam War. Upon completing his military service, he graduated from the Municipal Police Academy and was then employed for twenty-eight years with the Chambersburg Police Department, retiring in 1997 at the rank of Detective Sergeant. Mark was then employed as Chief County Investigator with the Franklin County District Attorney's Office for ten years, retiring in 2007. He was a life member of Detrich-Brechbill Post 612 American Legion in St. Thomas where he had held membership for forty-five years and was currently serving as President of the Home Association. He was a life member of Hume-McNeil-Byers AMVETS Post 224, a member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, the Chambersburg Club, and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was an avid outdoorsman and at one time enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Arnold Christman, whom he married January 15, 2006; his son, Brad Christman of Harrisburg; two step-children, Erik Stufft of Carlisle and Kala Stufft of Chambersburg; his step-granddaughter, Eva Medina; and his brother, David Christman of Antelope, MT.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 21, 2010 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday and 9:00-10:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
