Jerry E. Shields, 69, of 3380 White Church Road, Chambersburg, PA, died unexpectedly at 6:55 AM Friday, August 20, 2010 in Hershey Medical Center from complications of an accident while vacationing with his family. Born June 25, 1941 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Robert W. Sr. and Margaret Gelsinger Shields. Jerry was a 1959 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School and was employed at the former J. Schoeneman Company in Chambersburg from 1959 until retiring as Vice President of Manufacturing in 1996. After retiring he worked part-time as a driver for Bricker Bus Lines. He was a member of Scotland United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees, the Administrative Board, and numerous committees including the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee. Jerry sang with the church choir and was an active participant in the construction of the Mohler Fellowship Hall. He enjoyed downhill skiing, body surfing, water sports, horseback riding, camping, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Gontz Shields, whom he married February 17, 1962; his daughter, Jodi L. Forrester and husband Toni; his son Jeffrey E. Shields and wife Nicole; and four grandchildren, Cody and Cristi Forrester, and Brody and Jared Shields, all of Chambersburg. Also surviving are two brothers, Robert W. Shields, Jr. of Chambersburg and David L. Shields and wife Mildred of Marion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard W. Shields.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM Monday, August 23, 2010 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Private interment will be in Norland Cemetery.
