Nellie B. Treher, 96, of Fayetteville, PA, died at 4:04 AM, Saturday, November 15, 2008 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born November 2, 1912 in Greensburg, WV, she was raised in the former Quincy Orphanage, Quincy, PA following the death of her parents. She was a daughter of the late Harry Burns and Bessie Bender Tabler. Nellie and her husband Dick lived in the Althoff House located near Devil's Den in Gettysburg National Military Park until their retirement, when they moved to Fayetteville. Mrs. Treher had been employed in the cafeteria of Gettysburg High School, retiring in 1972. She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Fayetteville and a former member of the Gettysburg United Methodist Church, where she had been active with many women's groups and the Sunday school program. She was a member of AARP Chapter 2287 in Chambersburg and enjoyed canning jelly, tatting, embroidery, and reading religious and all other types of books. Her beloved husband, Thomas Richard Treher, preceded her in death on August 14, 1994.
She is survived by two children, Albert R. Treher and wife Anna Lee (Sanders) of Brook Park, OH and Mildred E. Beauchamp and husband George of Seaford, DE; three grandchildren, Mark Beauchamp, and Craig and Scott Treher; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kristi Beauchamp. Nellie was the last of her five siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Fayetteville, PA. Pastor Thomas Willis will officiate. Interment will follow in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg, PA. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday in Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
