Shirley Elvey Kendle, 74, of 6011 Snider Road, St. Thomas, PA, died at 7:52 AM, Tuesday, August 24, 2010 in her daughter's home with her family at her side. Born August 25, 1935 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Ester Thomas Elvey of Duffield. She spent her early years in Duffield, then moving to Fayetteville to raise her four children, and later living in Chambersburg. She graduated from Chambersburg High School in 1953. She began working at Letterkenny Army Depot in 1955 and then worked for many years at Oak Bows on Ramsey Avenue and at the Children's Aid Society on Franklin Street for thirteen years. She loved her family, friends, flowers, birds, camping, traveling, and attending the Elvey Reunions at Caledonia every year.

She is survived by a daughter, Jody Cave and husband Paul of St. Thomas; three sons, Jeffrey Kendle and wife Rhonda of Chesapeake, VA, Michael Kendle of Millsboro, DE, and Jack "J.R." Kendle and wife Rose of State Line, PA; three grandchildren, Daryl Edmundson of North Africa, Amanda Edmundson of St. Thomas, and Eric Kendle of Deleware; one great-granddaughter, Kaylee Mellott of St. Thomas; and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren of State Line and Chesapeake as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved very dearly. She is also survived by a brother, Donald J. Elvey and wife Ruth of Dagsboro, DE; and a sister, Margret R. Nicarry (wife of the late Donald) of Greencastle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle (wife of the late Carl) Shields of Fort McCord, a brother, Jack (wife Myreta) Elvey of Needmore, and an infant brother, Calvin.

The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation from 6-8:00 PM on Friday, August 27, in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to family, friends, Hospice, and other who helped with making Shirley's wish of passing away at home come true. May God bless you all.
