David J. Glen, age 58, of Silver Spring, MD and Chambersburg, died on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 in Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring, following a brief illness. Born on September 8, 1951 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Dr. Donald J. and Margaret A. Cox Glen.
Dave was a 1969 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, and a 1975 graduate of Indiana Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne, IN. Dave joined DeLeuw Cather, now Parsons Corporation in Washington, DC almost 32 years ago on the Washington Metro project as a young power engineer. Even though he was not a computer expert by training or experience, he had a passion and love for computers. Long before "IT" was a buzz word or IT departments were known to exist, Dave became a one-man IT department for the whole Washington, DC Metro project, keeping all early versions of hardware and software buzzing. A mentor to young engineers, he was an extremely helpful person, and everyone reached out to him for help. Dave was instrumental in developing various power simulation programs, which are widely used in the Washington DC metropolitan area. His career took him to such destinations as San Francisco, Saudia Arabia and Dubai.

His life-long interests included hang gliding, bicycling, swimming, and competing in triathlons. He completed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Swim for the last 18 years, including the one in May of this year. An avid traveler, he spent vacations with his family in Ireland, England, Scotland, Austria, Switzerland, Iceland, Mexico, Italy and Croatia.

Dave is survived by his brother, George S. and wife, Nancy Glen of Chambersburg; and two nephews, Patrick J., his wife, Ethel, and their brand new son, Santiago Azueta Glen, of Washington, DC, and Christopher D., and his wife, Tara Glen, of Harrisburg. He will also be greatly missed by his Uncle Bob and Aunt Dorothy Yannaccone of Watsontown, PA, and a number of cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, September 9, 2010 in the chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, with Rev. Paul B. Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chambersburg YMCA, 570 E. McKinley St. Chambersburg, PA 17201, or to a charity of one's choice.
