Barbara Jean Shuman

Barbara Jean “Barbie” Shuman, 69, of Hagerstown, MD passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025 in Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown. Born April 29, 1956 on Bolling Airforce Base, Washington, D.C. she was the daughter of the late John S. Shuman, Jr. and Catherine L. (LaFortezza) Shuman.

She was a graduate of Potomac High School, Oxon Hill, MD with the Class of 1972. Barbie was employed by the federal government throughout her career first with the Navy and then with the Department of Education, Washington, D.C. as a management analyst. Barbie loved animals, especially her beloved dogs and pet birds. She loved flowers and enjoyed growing a variety of them in her yard every year. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, MD.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert E. Yeakle who she married October 9, 1999; four siblings, John S. Shuman, III of Oregon, Andrea Branan of White Plains, MD, Bradley Shuman of California, and Susan Blair (Nicholas) of Myersville, MD; niece Catherine Soni; as well as a number of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.
