Bertha M. (Wiles) Caufman, 90, of Chambersburg, PA went home to be with The Lord Wednesday, February 25, 2026, in the Chambersburg Hospital surrounded by her family. Born September 14, 1935 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Rachel S. (Wingert) Wiles.
She was a graduate of Chambersburg High School. Bertha was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a faithful member of New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church, Chambersburg. Bertha also enjoyed knotting comforts for Cumberland Valley Relief Center.
She is survived by three children, Jean Hess and her husband Dean of Greencastle, PA, LeRoy Caufman and his wife Melinda of Waynesboro, PA and Anita Schellhase and her husband Craig of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren, Michael Schellhase (Emily), Dr. Benjamin Schellhase, Kristen Mumma (Sheldon), Amber Caufman (Kei Greene), Allyson Yeager (TJ), Eric Hess (Candace), Sommer Caufman (Djordje Culum), and Brandon Hess; 23 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Esther Menges, Catherine Wiles, Anna Smith, Ardith Byers, and Martha Bricker; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur R. Caufman who passed away August 7, 2011, a son, Ray E. Caufman who passed away January 3, 2026; and an infant sister.
Services will be held will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 4, 2026 in New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church 1575 Mont Alto Rd., Chambersburg, PA where Pastor Lawton Jacobs will officiate. Interment will follow in New Guilford Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Tuesday evening in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17022 as well as one hour prior to the service Wednesday afternoon in the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church at the above address.
