Betty Verdier

Betty E. Flora Verdier, 63, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born October 15, 1959 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Ruth Rhoads Flora. Mrs. Verdier was a 1978 graduate of the Waynesboro Area Senior High School and worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at South Mountain Restoration Center. She then worked for 17 years at Martin’s Famous Pastry Shoppe in Chambersburg. Mrs. Verdier returned to school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and went to work at Quincy Home and most recently Home to Stay where she worked with Pediatric Patients. She was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Chambersburg and enjoyed gardening, canning, and spending time with her great-grandson. Her husband, Jon K. “Kirk” Verdier, whom she married March 18, 1988, preceded her in death on April 21, 2023.

She is survived by her daughter, Kristina Shaffer of Orrstown; her son, Jason Flora of Philadelphia; six grandchildren, Mikayla Shaffer – Betz, Austin Betz, Ryland Betz, Brady Betz, Mia Shaffer, and Zaiden Johnson; and her great-grandson, Owen Rhoe. She is also survived by her sister, Roberta Martin of Chambersburg; nephew James Martin of Rochester, NY, and sister-in-law Ena Verdier of Chambersburg. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Hershey.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 21, 2023 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Pastor Staci Geesaman will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
