Carol Leedy

Carol J. (aka Joni/Joanne) Peters Leedy, 86, of Chambersburg and formerly of Scotland, PA, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, in The Shook Home. Born on March 1, 1937, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Maxwell and Cora (Oakman) Peters.

She was a 1955 graduate of Chambersburg High School. Her work career began as a lifeguard at Caledonia State Park and later as a worker at the Franklin County Courthouse. After having children, Joni worked as a switchboard operator and mail clerk at the Scotland School for Veterans' Children for many years.
Joni loved to spend time with her family and travel with Rich and their friends. Many beach memories were made with her own family. She always looked forward to the Peters and the Leedy reunions. Joni also loved flowers (especially roses) and tending to them around her home. The family will remember her wonderful dinners and delicious desserts!


Joni married the love of her life, her high school sweetheart, the late Richard D. Leedy. Together they raised three children whom she is survived by — Susan (Joseph) Kopchick of Mechanicsburg, PA, Richard, Jr, (Amy Grant) of Chambersburg, and Kelly (Edward) Bell of Venice, FL. Joni is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, her brother Gerald (Catherine) Peters of Scotland, PA, and several nieces and a nephew. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her other brother, Harold (Jack) Peters.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc. Chambersburg, PA. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, PA, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. There will be no viewing or visitation at the request of the family.
