Charles W. Coon

Charles W. Coon, 91, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Concordia at SpiriTrust , Luther Ridge in Chambersburg.

Born on July 15, 1935, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Frank F. Coon, Jr. and Florence (Littlefield) Coon.

Charles was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was defined by his love of family, faith, and country. He proudly served in the United States Air Force and continued his commitment to service through a civil service career with the Air Force, dedicating a combined 34 years to his country.

Charles enjoyed an active and fulfilling life alongside his beloved wife, Martha. Together they participated in the Whirlybirds Square Dancing Group, where Charles once served as president, as well as golf and bowling leagues, bird watching and sanctuary activities, running and fitness programs, and hosting cherished family reunions.

Charles and Martha shared a remarkable love story, marrying on February 9, 1957, and spending 69 wonderful years together. Their greatest joy was their family. They devoted themselves to caring for and spending time with those they loved, especially their treasured grandchildren, Emily, Owen, Adam, Austin, Dave, Beth, Becca, Sarah, Leah, Brooke, and Takoda, as well as their ten beloved great-grandchildren, who brought them endless pride and happiness.

Charles is survived by his loving children, Dale Coon (Michelle) of Boston, MA, Julia Harvey of Chambersburg, PA, and Lorraine Kennedy (Ron) of Carlotta, CA; and by his sister, Maxine Walker.

In addition to his parents, Charles was recently preceded in death by his beloved wife, Martha Coon, and by their son, Scott Coon; his brother Frank F. Coon, III; and his sister Barbara Deiss

Family and friends are invited to attend a companion memorial service honoring both Charles and Martha, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
