Major Charles P. “Chuck” Vickers Army Ret., 86, of Fayetteville, PA passed away the morning of Tuesday, December 13, 2022 in Somerford Place, Hagerstown, MD. Born May 9, 1936 in Honduras he was the son of the late William A. Vickers and Perfecta Padilla.

Chuck was raised in Wanakena, NY by his father William, and his mom Margaret. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably during Vietnam where he served with the Dusters, Quads and Searchlights as an air defense artillery officer. Chuck spent 20 years in the Army retiring as a major being awarded the The Bronze Star Medal with “V” device for heroism. Following retirement he went to work for the Department of Defense.

Chuck was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Bel Air, MD where he served as an Elder. He was an avid tennis player and coach, having won many tournaments, he was ranked nationally by the USTA. He was always happy to offer tennis tips and lessons to players young and old. Chuck also coached basketball.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maxine M. (Schmidt) Vickers; four children, William E. Vickers (Ruth) of Virginia, Trudi Pruett (Nicolas) of Colorado, Michael P. Vickers (Tammy) of Maryland, and Charles T. Vickers (Lizbeth) of Texas; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one on the way; five siblings, May Susan Persson (Al) of Massachusetts, Haydee Rodriguez of Honduras, Reyna Grubair of Florida, Jorge Artica (Carmen) of Florida and Norma Gross of Chicago; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 20, 2022 in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Pastor Jim Testerman officiating. The burial will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 4855 Londonderry Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17109 where members of the Dauphin County Honor Guard will conduct military honors.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Tuesday morning in the funeral home.
