Christopher Barker

Chambersburg, PA

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Christopher Barker who departed this life peacefully at the age of 73. Chris was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Paul and Marion Barker. He lived the majority of his life in Henderson, North Carolina, and recently moved to Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, to live closer to family.

Chris graduated from Nyack College, in Nyack, New York, and dedicated his life to children and serving others. Some of his most rewarding years were his service at the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford, North Carolina, where he was a loving house parent, promoting a safe and nurturing home to teenage boys in need and maximizing their potential.

Chris was a gifted trumpet player and had an immense love for music, especially jazz. He loved fishing, but only if he could share it with a good friend, walking outdoors, bicycle riding, and baseball, especially the New York Yankees. He loved food and could eat like a horse despite never gaining weight. He was known for his kindness and love by everyone he met, especially his family and friends. He was an especially devoted and loving father, brother, and uncle.

He is survived by his daughter, Catherine (Jason) Logan, brothers, John and Stephen (Lillian), and nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

He will be buried in Otis, Massachusetts, close to family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford or Delta Lake Bible Conference Center in Rome, New York, where he and his family have many fond memories.

Chris’s kindness and love for his family and friends will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He believed in the simple joys of life, emphasizing the importance of love, friendship, and the wonders of the world around us, truly making it a wonderful world.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc., Chambersburg, PA. Online condolences may be expressed on his page at www.geiselfuneralhome.com.
