David Reed

David Jacob Reed III, age 74, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born November 29, 1949, in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late David J. Reed II and Catherine Gilbert Carbaugh.
Dave had attended CASHS. He worked for D.M. Evans for 25 years, retiring in 2015 as a warehouse manager. Dave was a member of the Moose Lodge, VFW Post 1599, Sons of the American Legion Post 46, and the Marine Corps League. Dave was a great athlete. He loved playing golf, especially in local tournaments. He played slow pitch softball for several teams over the years, including the Moose, Marine Corps, IHOP, and Kimples. He also enjoyed throwing horseshoes and darts. And when he wasn’t playing sports, he was watching one of his favorite teams: the Raiders, the Yankees, the Tarheels and Notre Dame. A kind and generous soul, Dave always tried to make a difference and to help others any way he was able.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 50 years, Cheryl Riley Reed, whom he married on November 10, 1973; two daughters, Yonnie Slimmer (Chad) of Chambersburg, PA and Shannon Reed of Bridgeport, WV; two granddaughters, Abby and Issie Slimmer; and three siblings, Princess Jean Mong (Bob), James Carbaugh, Jr. (Deb), and Penny Thomas.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024, at 11 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 3 – 5 PM and on Monday, January 29, 2024, from 10 – 11 AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Gift Processing Administrator, 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive, Triangle, VA 22172.
