Dennis L. Barnhart

Mr. Dennis L. “Barny” Barnhart, 78, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Sunday, December 21, 2025, in Genesis Health Care Center Gettysburg. Born June 4, 1947, in Chambersburg, PA he was the son of the late Ivan Barnhart, Jr. and Helen (Churches) Barnhart.

He was a graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School with the Class of 1967. Dennis served honorably with the United States Army Reserves for a number of years. He was employed as a machine operator at TB Woods, Chambersburg and later he was employed with a sign crew for PennDot.

Dennis was a member of the Fort Chambers Chapter of the NWTF where he served on the banquet committee and South Mountain Fish and Game, South Mountain, PA. He was an avid hunter and served as co-leader of Boy Scout Troop 128.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy A. (Leininger) Barnhart who he married, February 14, 1970; two children, Sherri Arrowood (Sean) of Fayetteville, PA and Kevin Barnhart (Jennifer) of Chambersburg, PA; six grandchildren, Desire Zeger (Cory), Taylor Arrowood (Justin Large), Jade Bigler (Dacota), Trista Arrowood, Baillie Barnhart (Danielle), and Miles Barnhart; four great-grandchildren, Emryn and Roman Zeger, Bowdey Barnhart, and Wrenley Bigler; a brother, Steven Barnhart (Kim) of St. Thomas, PA; and his beloved dog, Tippie. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Robert “Terry” Barnhart.

Services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, December 26, 2025, in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Rev. Thomas Dunkle officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, PA.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Friday morning in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Zion Reform Church, 259 S. Main Street, PA 17201 or to Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road W., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
