Dorothy E. Moreland, 81, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2026 in Paramount Senior Living, Fayetteville. Born January 25, 1945 in Cumberland, MD she was the daughter of the late Lawrence L. and Wynetta (Shoemaker) Grim.
She was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, Cumberland, MD with the Class of 1963. Dorothy attended the registered nursing program at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, MD. She was employed as a registered nurse at the Chambersburg Hospital. Dorothy retired in March of 1996 after 30 years of dedicated service.
She was a vital member of the Chambersburg Quilt Guild where she served as the president from 1998 until 1999 and was instrumental in starting and organizing a retreat for the guild at Roxbury. Dorothy was well-known for her beautiful award winning quilts. She was also a life member of the Order of Eastern Star in Cumberland, MD.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Charles E. Moreland who she married October 29, 1966; two sons, Ronald Moreland of Beckley, WV and Michael Moreland (Kate) of Louisville, KY; five grandchildren, Mary, Danny, James Charles “Jimmy”, Fritz, and Sophie Moreland; a brother David Grim (Shari); and a nephew, Collin Stierstorfer. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Ronna Stierstorfer.
Services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 24, 2026 in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Thursday morning in the funeral home.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, September 25, 2026 in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, 3218 Philadelphia Ave, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to Dementia Society of America at Dementia Society of America
