Earl W. Garvin, Jr., 93, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Paramount Senior Living in Fayetteville, PA. He was born on June 25, 1932, in Chambersburg, PA to the late Earl W. Sr. and Anna (Heckman) Garvin.
Earl served honorably in the United States Army. He was employed by H J Tanner Inc. in Chambersburg, PA as the General Manager until his retirement. Earl was a member of the Kittatinny Historical Society and the F&M Go Club and enjoyed going on bus trips and traveling with those groups with his wife, Patricia. He was also a member of Orrstown Masonic Lodge No. 262 F. & A. M., Tall Cedars Valley Forest 145, and a lifetime member VFW Post # 1599. He was a Charter Member since 1957 of the New Franklin Ruritan and Community Association. He was a Ruritan Forever member and held various offices at the local level, district level including Zone Governor, District Lt. Governor, and District Governor, and at the national level as a National Director, District Growth and Development. Earl was a lifetime member of Solomons United Church of Christ where he taught Sunday School and held various offices within the consistory. Earl was also an avid sports fan, participating in softball, bowling, and golfing and he enjoyed watching family members sporting events.
He is survived by two children Cindy Holmquist (Aldo) and Edwin Garvin; grandchildren Ben Holmquist (Emily) and Sarah Holmquist (Ben); great grandchildren Sullivan, Evelynne, Brechtlee, McClellan, Ellison, and Callahan; sister-in-law Nancy Swartz; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Garvin, who passed away in 2020, and a sister Delores Gilbert.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Rev. Peter Emig officiating. Burial will follow in Grindstone Hill Cemetery in Chambersburg, PA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday, from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
