Elmer R. Baumgardner, 95, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Menno Haven Yeager Home. He was born on May 5, 1931, in Ogletown, PA to the late Lewis and Anna (Sease) Baumgardner.
Elmer was a graduate of Windber High School and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Susquehanna University. He served honorably in the United States Army. He was the owner and operator of Baumgardner Oil Company and a consultant with Truck Mart LLC. Elmer was a member of King Street Church serving on the Board of Directors for a period of time and as a Teacher with the New Life Sunday School. and was a Cub Scout Master at St. John’s United Church of Christ. He enjoyed drag racing and built his own car with the Chambersburg Motor Knights where he also served as Club Advisor. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, enjoyed working at his office and at his home, but most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Elmer is survived by his wife Doris Ann (Sites) Baumgardner of Chambersburg, PA; son Dirk Lee Baumgardner (Audry) of Chambersburg, PA; daughter Lyn West (Greg) of Chambersburg, PA; grandchildren Joshua Baumgardner (Megan) of Eldersburg, MD; Lindsay Smith (Brandon) of Springfield, TN; Derek West (Mary) of Lititz, PA; Lauren Whipple (Collin) of Leola, PA; great grandchildren Cole Baumgardner, Grady Smith, Alice Smith, Micah Smith, Lyla Whipple, Eli Whipple, Nora Whipple, Adam West, Noah West, and Emma West. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 4 sisters Vera, Annabelle, Fern, and Evelyn, and 2 brothers Lewis “Bud” and Glenn.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
