Esther Brechbill

Esther M. Brechbill, 93, of Chambersburg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born April 12, 1929 in Letterkenny Township, she was a daughter of the late Daniel D. and Mary S. Sollenberger Byers. Her beloved husband, Blaine J. Brechbill preceded her in death.

Esther was a faithful member of Emmanuel Fellowship Church. She labored faithfully in prayer for the church and others. Her home was a place of gracious hospitality to many. She dedicated most of her life to making a home for her family. Esther was an avid gardener, and loved flowers and people. She also served as a budget Scribe for The Budget Newspaper for many years.

She is survived by five children, Joseph B. Brechbill of Bedford, Donald L. Brechbill and wife Mary Ann of Chambersburg, Bernice K. Brechbill of Harrisonburg, VA, Edward B. Brechbill of Duncannon, and Verna M. Garber and husband Marvin of Madras, OR; daughter-in-law, Joan Brechbill of Chambersburg; 21 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; and one brother, Daniel D. Byers and wife Ruth of St. Thomas. Aside from her parents and husband, Esther was preceded in death by her daughter, Wilma J. Brechbill; daughter-in-law, Susie Brechbill (wife of Joseph); granddaughter, Priscilla Garber; two sisters, Mary and Thelma Byers; and two brothers, Jacob and Arthur Byers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at the Portico River Brethren Meeting House, 5501 Fort McCord Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Interment will follow the service in Brechbill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, January 23, 2023 at the church.
