Eunice Irene (Deardorff) Zook, 88, of Chambersburg, PA, died on Wednesday morning, June 17, 2026. Born October 1, 1937, she grew up first in Guilford Township then on the family farm in the Scotland/Greenvillage area. She was the oldest of four children born to the late Pearl Irene Hoover and Franklin Vanderau Deardorff.
A 1955 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Eunice worked for over 50 years at the Christian Life Bookstore in several locations in Chambersburg. She married her late husband, Avery W. Zook, in 1958 and they immediately moved to Freeman, SD to complete I-W service.
Following their return to Chambersburg, she worked part-time and volunteered her time at the Chambersburg Hospital and Menno Haven in addition to raising their children and serving as the family typist. Living much of her adult life in Culbertson, she enjoyed bird-watching, stamp collecting, genealogy, and needle work. She was an active member of Air Hill Brethren In Christ Church from her childhood through her retirement. She and her husband Avery moved to Menno Village in 2014.
She is survived by two children, Avery Zook II (Pamela) of Doylestown, OH, and Susan Felix (Robert) of Dillsburg; four grandchildren, Derek Zook (Jade), Kara Alexandra, Molly Zook (Kara Fultz), and Neil Zook; two great grandchildren, Teagan and Riley Fultz; two siblings, Lewis Deardorff (Virginia “Cookie”), and Janice Burkholder (Stanley); her brother-in-law, Kenneth Brubaker; and nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents and husband, Eunice was preceded in death by her sister, Audrey Brubaker.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 22, 2026, at the Air Hill Brethren In Christ Church, 7041 Cumberland Highway, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. John Melhorn will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM prior to the service. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA.
