Evelyn H. Stiffler, 93, of Chambersburg, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026. She was born in Scotland, PA on Friday June 16, 1933, at 4:00 PM. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Sarah Henry.
She was a 1951 graduate of Chambersburg High School. She retired from Letterkenny Army Depot, as an accounting technician. She was typist and a secretary, she was also self-employed doing clerical work, telephone surveys and was dispatcher for Bill’s Taxi. She was a member and a volunteer of the Chambersburg Senior Activity Center for 14 years, serving as secretary. She was on Program, Hospitality, ways and means, and membership committees. She was the Bingo Caller, a greeter, table head and made birthdays special. She did programs for Memorial Day and Veterans Day and organized a reading program that lasted 10 years until her retirement from the center.
She was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Scotland, serving as secretary of Christian Endeavor, pianist in the Jr Department until her marriage and moving to Edenville. Her membership was transferred to Edenville United Methodist Church. During that time, she served in many positions including Church Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Jr Church leader, organized and taught Bible School, belonged to Ladies Aid, United Methodist Woman and Discipleship. She started Pioneer Girls and assisted with St. Thomas Girl Scouts. She helped with Bible School and youth fellowship at Trinity Lutheran Church, after her move to Chambersburg, she transferred her membership to King Street United Brethren Church. At that time, she set up a Sunday School class for singles and in latter years, she completed Bible Study courses in the home. She loved to read, do puzzles, play games, movies, watching Lawrence Welk, read the newspaper and go shopping.
Surviving are two daughters; Georgia A. Vickery and her husband John of Huntsville, TX and Eva L. Scott, of Chambersburg; two grandchildren, Chirs and Sarah Vickery; also numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend Richard P. Brown. Preceding her in death was a sister, Mary Alleman and three brothers, Henry, Laban and Wilbur Henry.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, with Rev. Ron Cook officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service, 9:30 AM-10:30 AM. Burial will follow the service in Norland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in her name to the Chambersburg Meals on Wheels, 43 W. Washington St., Chambersburg, PA.
