George J. Sanders

With deep love, we announce the passing of George Joseph Sanders, age 90, a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 25,2026 at the Wellspan Chambersburg Hospital after a short illness. He was born on November 21,1935 in Rochester, New York to George and Marie (Daly) Sanders.

George spent his early childhood years in Buffalo, NY and moved to Hagerstown, MD in 1947. He graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1954. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955-1959; and attended Hagerstown Junior College. George was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot from 1960-1993.

George built a life rooted in family, honesty, and hard work. He will be remembered for his quick endearing smile, steady heart and his passion for aviation that he passed on to his family. George's memory will live on in the lessons he taught, the love he gave so freely, and he will be greatly missed by his family.

George is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Shirley of Chambersburg; his children of Chambersburg, Dennis (Pamela), Shane (Debra), Shawn-Marie and Trent (Jennifer); grandchildren, Brent of Chambersburg, Ashley (Tao) of Blue Ash, OH, Trent Foley and Emilyn of Germantown, MD; and great grandchildren, Elisabeth and Frederic George of Blue Ash, OH. Aside from his parents, George was preceded in death by his son Blane.

The Sanders Family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the staff at Wellspan Chambersburg Hospital, who took such wonderful care of George.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201. Interment will follow the mass in Lincoln Cemetery where the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will provide military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass on Thursday at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA.
