George J. Shaffer

George J. Shaffer, 85, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Thursday, June 12, 2025 in the UPMC Carlisle Hospital. Born August 4, 1939 in Mont Alto, PA he was the son of the late George C. and Hazel (Blizzard) Shaffer.

He was a graduate of Quincy High School with the Class of 1957. In 1960 George went to work as a truck driver for Valley Quarries, Inc., Chambersburg. He retired in 2002 after 42 years of dedicated service. George was a life member of New Franklin Fire Department and the Marine Corps League, Chambersburg. He enjoyed going to sprint car races, watching NASCAR and the Philadelphia Eagles with his wife, and most of all he enjoyed attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley J. (Bowling) Shaffer who he married June 2, 1962; four children, G. Randy Shaffer (Karen Pettner) of Shippensburg, PA, Carla Wenger (Rick) of Chambersburg, Kim Edwards (Rob) of Elbert, CO, and Kelly Poe (Russell) of Chambersburg; six grandchildren, Amanda Naugle, Amber Carbaugh, Shendelle Berger, Jeffery Edwards, Catherine Edwards, and Kerri Poe; seven great-grandchildren, Christopher Small, Reagan Mills, Charity Naugle, Jaxon Mills, Ethan Carbaugh, Emma Carbaugh, and Harlan Carbaugh; two sisters, Clarabell Cable and Barbara Ann Hayes; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three sisters, Myrtle Shaffer, Bernadine Rotz, and Shirley Longenecker.

Services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, June 20, 2025 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Pastor Bill Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Quincy, PA.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Friday morning in the funeral home.
