Jack J. Johnson

Jack J. Johnson, 71, of Chambersburg, passed away on Sunday morning, September 20, 2026, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born September 10, 1955, in Carlisle, PA, he was the son of the late Jack Sharkey Beason and Clara Belle Cover Johnson, and step-son of the late Charles Leroy Johnson.

A US Army veteran, Jack served honorably during the Vietnam War. He was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot first as a security guard, then a forklift driver and lastly in demolitions until his retirement in 2012. Jack was also retired from the Air National Guard 167th Air Lift Wing from Martinsburg, WV. He was a member of the VFW Post 1599 and the American Legion Post 46, both in Chambersburg and enjoyed walking with his wife and dogs, usually 10 miles a day. Jack also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, having picnics in the back yard, and being with his dogs, Yeti, Carson, Kiki and Daisy.

Jack is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara A. Monn Johnson, whom he married on September 15, 1973; three children, Robert Lee Johnson (Nicole) of Pittsburgh, PA, Michael R. Johnson (Myrissa) of Harrisburg, PA, and Nicole A. Simmers (Kevin) of Fayetteville, PA; nine grandchildren, Becca Johnson, Katie Johnson, Hannah Gilbert, Joseph Simmers, Myla Johnson, Jack Johnson, Blaze Johnson, Megan Simmers, and Andy Simmers; and one great grandson, Joey Nestler.

A graveside service will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA. Condolences and memories may be shared at geiselfuneralhome.com.
