Joan E. Spangler, 69, a resident of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, PA, went to be with The Lord on her sixty-ninth birthday Friday morning, March 16, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born March 16, 1943 in York County, PA, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Verna I. Smith Airing. She was employed for fifteen years at Martin’s Food Market in Hagerstown, MD and for six years in the fast food deli at Sunnyway Foods in Chambersburg. Joan liked putting puzzles together, bingo, crocheting, and her trips to the casinos. She also enjoyed NASCAR and was an avid Jeff Gordon fan. She was a selfless person who always put other before herself and she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Joan is survived by three children, Beverly A. Graham and husband Donald C of Mercersburg, Donald E. Spangler, Jr. and wife Kathy L. of Clear Spring, MD, and Tracy L. Breeden and husband Rodney D. of Hagerstown, MD; five grandchildren, Lindsay Spangler, Brandon Graham, Autumn and Allysen Breeden, and Skylar Spangler; a great-granddaughter, Emma Roze Johnson; and a brother, George Airing and wife Betty of Dover, PA.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM Monday, March 19, 2012 at St. Thomas United Methodist Church, 360 St. Thomas-Edenville Road, St. Thomas, PA. Pastor Steve Portner will officiate. Interment will be private. Friends will be received from 5:00-6:00 PM Monday at the church.
