JoAnne L. Hykes

April 19, 1947 — February 6, 2026

Chambersburg

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, JoAnne L. (McDannell) Hykes, whose love of life and those left behind didn’t end with her death.

JoAnne “JoJo” was born April 19, 1947 in Chambersburg, PA to the late Melvin I. and Cynthia C. (McNew) McDannell. She was a graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School with the Class of 1965. She married her one and only true love, Edward P. Hykes April 16, 1966. In 1990 Jo found her passion in nursing, graduating from FCCTC-PNP Program. She worked in several different doctors’ offices as an LPN until her retirement in 2009. Her favorite job was working alongside Dr. James Barton, who Jo came to think of as family.

According to JoJo her greatest accomplishment in life was her three children, Angelia “Angie” Breon (Doug) of Shippensburg, Wayde Hykes of Chambersburg, and Brad Hykes (wife Melody) of Chambersburg. JoAnne and Eddie’s legacy continues with eleven grandchildren, Amber VanWhy (Heath), Laken Cole (Austin), Zachary Miley (Jessica), Jordan Hykes, Devyn Hykes (Arianna), Allyson Lehman (Benjamin), Mandy Cleary (Corey), Jennifer Lundy (Jeremy), Levi Hornbaker (Brenna), Gabrielle Keefer (George), and Stone Hykes (Natalie) and 27 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Brenda Seaman (Eric), Ken McDannell (Marcia), Teresa Carbaugh (Frank), Marcia Feldman (Jeff), Lori Renfrew (Greg), Troy McDannell, and Kristi Yeingst (Jim).

Three of JoJo's most cherished went home before her.  She is preceded in death by her parents and her precious "Eddie Paul".

JoAnne left this world surrounded by those that were blessed to love her. Her faith and love of Our Father, Jesus Christ was an example to all that were lucky enough to meet her. Her faith was as strong as the lady herself.
