Joe E. McLaughlin, 72, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born September 25, 1953, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Leonard and Marie Ewan McLaughlin.

A 1971 graduate of CASHS, Joe served as a firefighter for the Borough of Chambersburg for thirty years until his retirement. Joe was deeply engaged in his community. He was a social member of the VFW Post 1599, the Chambersburg Club, and Dry Run American Legion Post 232. He collected music and enjoyed listening to his stereo system, dabbled in woodworking, played golf, and had a deep appreciation for history. Joe was known for his great sense of humor and natural intelligence. He had the remarkable ability to fix nearly anything. Above all, Joe treasured spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Ann Weber McLaughlin, whom he married on October 22, 1977; three daughters, Monica Bumgarner (Sean) of Mobile, AL, Megan Potter (Timothy) of Pottstown, PA, and Michelle Christian (Lee) of Alpena, MI; four grandchildren, Jase Potter, Quinn Potter, Olin Christian, and Mara Bumgarner; and his brother, Jeffrey McLaughlin (Charlotte) of Berlin, MD.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, June 19, 2026, in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 PM on Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
