John W. “June” Byers, Jr., 99, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg, PA.
He was born on June 12, 1925, in New Franklin, PA to the late John W. Byers, Sr. and Theressa (Miller) Byers.
June served in the Army during WWII from 1946-1947 with time in Japan. He was then employed by Letterkenny Army Depot until his retirement in 1985. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed metal detecting with his brothers. June was a longtime member of the former Cold Spring United Brethren Church in Fayetteville, PA.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Arlene (Gsell) Byers of Fayetteville, PA whom he married in December 1951; son Rodney J. Byers (Renee) of Chambersburg, PA; daughter Wilma Bumbaugh (Ed) of Mont Alto, PA; 3 grandchildren Shannon Richard (Troy) of Lititz, PA; Chad Bumbaugh (Karen) of Mount Wolf, PA; Amber Byers of Saline, MI; 6 great-grandchildren Colby and Logan Richard, Avery and Jocelyn Bumbaugh, and Olivia and Layah Byers.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 4 brothers Leslie, Warren, McClellan, and Wayne and 2 sisters Hazel and Dorothy.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Pastor Caroline Saxton officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM at the funeral home.
