John Brindle Dice, Jr.

March 28, 1944 — December 2, 2025

Chambersburg

On Tuesday December 2, 2025, John Brindle Dice Jr. met his beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As he was ushered into Heaven, he was surrounded by his family. Now John knows his Savior face to face as he is fully known.

Born in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania on March 28, 1944, John was the son of the late John Brindle Dice, Sr. and Ethel Annie (Byers) Dice.

John grew up on the family farm. He was a graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Class of 1963. After graduation, he began his career working at the Marathon Corporation (later the American Can Company). He was employed by United Parcel Service (UPS) retiring on his 65th birthday on March 28, 2009.

He worked there for 36 years as both a package car driver and tractor trailer driver. John always worked hard to provide for his family.

John loved Jesus and his family. He, along with his beloved wife, Carol, grew food and flowers. It gave John great joy to bless others with their bounty. Known for his generosity in all things: his time, his talents, his kindness and his love. He gave away flowers, fruits and vegetables from he and his wife’s gardens.

John is survived by his wife, Carol (Shatzer) Dice whom he married 61 years ago on June 28, 1964; three children, Tamy (husband Vaughn) Cook, Wanda (husband Donnie) Dietrich, and Michael (wife Sara) Dice; four grandchildren, Devin Dietrich (girlfriend Bridget); Emily Schoenleber; Kendra (husband Tobias) Wall and Caleb Dice; seven siblings, Joan Brechbill, Clarence Dice, Mabel (husband DeWayne) Hogue, Glenn (wife Catherine “Kitty”) Dice, Ethel (husband Ben) Carbaugh, Pauline (husband Charlie) Ruthrauff and Norman “Butch” (wife Pam) Dice; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve (wife Nancy) Shatzer and Tim (wife Jeannine) Shatzer; as well as multiple nieces and nephews.

In addition to his Parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Elwood Dice; grandson, Ryan Schoenleber; sisters-in-law, Linda Meyers and Helen Dice; and brother-in-law, A. Henry Brechbill.

John was a member of the King Street United Brethren Church and the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class. He volunteered in many capacities. Alongside his wife, John worked as a Youth Worker and served by her side in the Food Service area, served on the Board of Administration, Samaritan Fund, Communion Coordinator, was a lay delegate at United Brethren Annual Conference for two years, taught 3rd grade Sunday School Class, served in the Shepherd Ministry and its Core Team, served on the leadership team of The PrimeTimers; he enjoyed working on Missions trips and driving bus for the Youth Group Ski Retreats and Prime Timer trips.

In the community, John was a member of the Mt. Parnell Lion’s Club and volunteered at the Cold Weather Shelter. John also served as President of the Chambersburg Area Band Boosters Association.

John was always willing to lend a hand to anyone.

Above all, John wanted everyone to know Jesus. He was always inviting people to church.

His favorite Bible verse is Galatians 6:10 “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”

John’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all of John’s caregivers from Elder Day and Menno Haven at Home.

Also, deepest gratitude is extended to the Nursing Team from Residential Home Health & Hospice for their compassionate care.

John’s family also wishes to express an extra special heartfelt love and gratitude to John’s overnight Nurses who prayed with/for John, sang with/to him, played his favorite music and loved him as if he were their very own family. You know who you are and you are all dearly loved.
