John Rote

John E. Rote, age 85 of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at Providence Place Assist Living. Born November 24, 1937, in Sandy Ridge, PA, he was the son of the late John F. and Isabel Sharpless Rote.
Mr. Rote was a 1955 graduate of CASHS. He was a truck driver for the former Horn’s Motor Express and Dairy Maid Dairies. He then went on to work as a correctional officer for Franklin County for 11 years, where he would retire in 1998. Mr. Rote was a member of St. Paul UMC, the VFW, Marine Corps League, Elks, American Legion, The Chambersburg Club, and the Moose, all in Chambersburg. He was a proud member of the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed going to the beach, cars, driving, racing, NASCAR, the Boston Red Sox, Dallas Cowboys, and eating hard shell crabs.
Surviving is his wife of 30 years, Virginia “Ginny” Schnebly Rote, whom he married in December of 1992; five children, Lance T. Rote (wife Sue) of Chambersburg, PA, Jill S. Johnson (husband David) of Hagerstown, MD, Tobin R. Rote (wife Amy) of Harrisburg, PA, Heather Irwin (husband Hugh) of Sandy Ridge, NC, and Curtis Rosselle (wife Jeanna) of Gastonia, NC; eight grandchildren, Elayna, Aubrey, and Corryn Rote, Cody Lee Blaze Hagins, Kelci Depner, Taylor Rote, and Derek James “D.J.” Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Trey Depner and Caden Roselle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Summers in 1980 and a sister Nancy Lewis.
Services and interment will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc., Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org .
