With all honor, respect, love and sadness, the Martinchick Family announces the death of Joseph John Martinchick, Sr., of Chambersburg, PA. He was the beloved husband of Regina “Jean” (Gross) Martinchick, a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who went to be with our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 with his family by his side.
He was born on September 29, 1931 in Shamokin, PA to Peter and Mary (Rojak) Martinchick and was the last of three children. Joe attended St. Joseph's Elementary School and graduated in 1949 from Coal Township High School in Shamokin. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in France for twenty-eight months.
After serving his Country, Joe attended and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Radiology School in Philadelphia, PA. He accepted a position as an X-ray technician at the Chambersburg Hospital on January 2, 1958 and was employed there until 1979, spending the last 13 years as Chief Radiologic Technologist. During this time, he attended various film processing schools sponsored by Dupont and Kodak. He also worked for Mobile X-ray and Fulton County Medical Center. Joe was hired by Orthopedic Associates in 1982 and worked there until his retirement in 2008.
Joe and Jean were lifelong members of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Chambersburg and were involved in many fundraisers and activities that benefitted both the church and the school. Some of the fundraisers they organized were baking and selling raisin bread, making and selling pierogies, and organizing the annual Lenten fish-fry dinners. They were founding members of the "Young at Heart" club at the parish. Joe was a member of the Parish Council, served as an usher at the church, and was a life-long member of the Knights of Columbus.
Joe and Jean were proud of their Polish heritage and for over forty years they were members of and co-chaired Chambersburg Polka Charities. This was an organization that held an annual dinner-dance that included authentic Polish food and Polka music. All profits were donated to various local charities, amounting to more than fifty thousand dollars over the years.
Joe liked to hunt and fish and spend time outdoors, especially when he was picking mushrooms. He enjoyed planting his garden, mowing and working in his yard, and helping Jean take care of their geraniums and rose bushes. He looked forward to spending time with his friends and had a fantastic sense of humor, always a funny story or a joke to be shared with others. Most of all, Joe cherished spending time with his family and had an enormous compassion for his wife and two sons. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather who we will miss dearly and will be forever in our hearts.
He is survived by his loving wife, Regina; two sons Joseph, Jr. and Michael; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
