Karen S. Diehl, 83, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Monday, October 5, 2026, at her home. Born January 23, 1943, in Chambersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry W. and Mary E. (Perry) Shatzer. Her beloved husband of 64 years, Thomas R. Diehl, Sr., whom she married on June 23, 1962, passed away just 15 hours after her on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
Karen was a graduate of CASHS. She worked as a secretary with Baltimore Life Insurance Company for more than 30 years before retiring in 2007. A lifelong resident of Chambersburg, Karen was an active member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She enjoyed golfing, reading, and spending her winters in Naples, FL, but her greatest joy came from her family. Karen especially cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and loved being there to cheer them on at their many sporting events. Her love, encouragement, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Karen is survived by her three children, Christine Shively and husband Randy of Chambersburg, Kelly Zambetti and husband Gary of Venice, FL; and Thomas R. Diehl, Jr. and wife Lydia of Shippensburg; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren (on the way). Aside from her husband and parents, Karen was preceded in death by her brother, Garry Shatzer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Fr. Allan Wolfe will serve as celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the Mass. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA. The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for the exceptional care they provided Karen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Valley Breast Care Alliance at https://thecvbca.org/donate. Condolences and memories may be shared at geiselfuneralhome.com.
