Karin I. Woods, 92, of Chambersburg, PA passed away on October 9, 2025 at her daughter’s home in Fayetteville, PA.
She was born on January 31, 1933 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the capital city of the Canary Islands to the late Dipl.-Ing Otto R. and Hermine K. (Domes) Schlegel.
She also lived in Northern Germany and Austria (Vienna, Salzburg, and Linz.)
In 1956 Karin married her husband Command Sergeant Major James B. Woods whom she met while working on an American Army base in Austria and later became a United States Citizen.
Karin had a lifelong desire for knowledge. She preferred actively learning and reading books rather than using computers or cell phones. She often went to Wilson College and took part in their World Travel Series.
Karin was a very active member of First Lutheran Church. She took care of the Altar Guild for over 25 years. She never missed Sunday School, Bible Study, or a Women’s Group meeting. She was passionate about knitting and all types of puzzles. She had a love for animals. Karin also enjoyed dining out with family and friends especially spending time together every month with other German speaking ladies.
Karin worked for the school system while her children were young and later for Nichols and CVS.
She is survived by her three children, Barb Evans her husband, Chuck, Steve Woods, and Specialist E4 Tom Woods. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother Dipl.-Ing Heimo Schlegel.
The memorial service will be held on November 1, 2025 at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 43 W. Washington St., Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Pastor Jane Nicholson officiating. Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Lutheran Church at the above address.
