Marie E. Starr, 83, of Chambersburg, PA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 25, 2025, from the WellSpan York Hospital. Born September 16, 1941, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Ada (Myers) Sollenberger.
She was a graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School with the Class of 1959. Marie was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She worked alongside her husband, Sheldon, and was vital in the daily operations of their farm. Together they owned and operated a dairy farm, as well as Farmer Starr’s Market, and a produce stand at Jim’s Market.
Marie was an active and faithful member of Mission Hill Church, formerly Chambersburg Brethren In Christ Church. She was especially drawn to short-term missionary work, spending time in various places such as SWAP in Eolia, KY, and Timber Bay Children’s Home in Saskatchewan, Canada, to list a few. Marie was always eager to volunteer locally as well as at Christian Retreat Center, the Mennonite Central Committee, and New Life Thrift Store. She shared her gifts of cooking and organizing to aid in several different ministries throughout her lifetime.
She is survived by two sons, Terry L. Starr (Cyndi) and Michael A. Starr (Susan), all of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Ella Heeter (John), Ean Starr (Shelby), Hannah Cox (Tim), and Isaac Starr; twelve great-grandchildren; four siblings, Stanley Sollenberger (Barb), Margaret Smokowicz, Barbara Yoder (Sam), and Nelson Sollenberger (Bev); and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R. Sheldon Starr, in 2019; a son, Randy E. Starr, in 2000; a brother, James Sollenberger; and two infant siblings, Martha and John.
