Mary Jane Johnson, 93, a resident at Menno Haven and formerly of Spring Run, PA, passed away Saturday evening, March 17, 2012 at the nursing home. Born June 12, 1918 in Fannettsburg, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Emma Snyder McCurdy. Mary Jane was a graduate of the former Fannett Township High School and worked at Letterkenny Army Depot during WWII. She later retired from Bell Telephone in Washington, DC, where she had worked for thirty-three years. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, knitting, crocheting, and antiques. Her husband, Wallace F. Johnson, preceded her in death.
The last of her immediate family, she is survived by a niece, Lucile Cole of Murfreesboro, NC; a nephew, Clair Ziegler and wife Anna of Chambersburg; and numerous grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Zeigler and Catharine Kern; and a brother, Cecil McCurdy.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Upper Path Valley Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Meagan Boozer will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
