Mary Lou (Nogel) Hendrickson, 77, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Johns Hopkins Medical Center, Baltimore, MD. Born May 7, 1947 in Danville, PA, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Dorothy (Irvin) Nogel.
She was a graduate of Lewisburg High School with the Class of 1965. She then went on to obtain her nursing degree from Harrisburg Poly Clinic in 1968. Mary Lou was a registered nurse throughout her career at the Eye and Ear Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, Milwaukee Children's Hospital and several nursing homes. She ended her career as a nurse with the Chambersburg Area School District in 2020.
Mary Lou was an active member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Chambersburg. She was also a passionate board member of St. John’s Nursey School for many years, serving as chairperson multiple times. Mary Lou loved flowers, animals, going to the beach, traveling all over the world with her husband, and going to the theater. Most of all, spending time with her children and grandchildren was her ultimate pleasure. Mary Lou was known for her wisdom, warmth, friendship, service, and compassion.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Donald C. Hendrickson, M.D. whom she married June of 1970; a son, Eric Hendrickson and his wife Linda of Neelyton, PA, and their two children, Benjamin and Justin; a daughter, Julie Dereef and her husband Marco of Fayetteville, PA, and their children, Zoe and Keiran; her brother-in-law, Ray Hendrickson and his wife Rebecca; sister-in-law, Martha Smith and her husband Phil; and nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road W., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
