Meriam H. Stumbaugh, 89, of Chambersburg, passed away on April 16, 2026, at Luther Ridge Skilled Nursing Care in Chambersburg, PA. Born January 14, 1937, in Yellow Creek, Bedford County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Abraham and Eva (Hale) Hoover. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John J. Stumbaugh, in 2005.
Meriam enjoyed tending her flower beds, playing cards with her card club, hosting gatherings with family and friends, visiting tearooms with them, and creating lasting memories on vacations with her loved ones. During her working career, she was a clerk-typist for the Letterkenny Army Depot, worked part-time as a bookkeeper for Carl R. Flohr, Inc., and briefly served as a client services representative for the South Central Community Action Program. Before her retirement in 2006, she was the office manager for the family rental and construction business, John J. Stumbaugh Construction. She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church and, in her younger years, volunteered with the Girl Scouts and assisted with Good News Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Michaelle Plotner, of Chambersburg, PA; her grandson, Matthew Plotner, and his fiancée, Elizabeth, of Potomac, MD; her granddaughter, Mallory Buntz, and her husband, John, of Odenton, MD; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Meriam was preceded in death by her siblings Kenneth Hoover, Janet Ferguson, Arlene Bambling, Barbara Gontz, Joyce Verdier, and Jean Hoover.
Services and interment will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA. Condolences and memories may be shared at geiselfuneralhome.com.
