Peggy Joanne (Barr) Eger, 83, of Chambersburg, passed unexpectedly at home, Saturday May 25, 2024. Peggy was proudly born Sunday June 16th, 1940, Father’s Day, Chambersburg Maternity Home in Chambersburg to the late C. Allen and Hilda (Fritz) Barr.
Her beloved husband of 25 years, James William Eger Jr., preceded her in death in 1991. Also sister Carole Ann and son Terry Michel unfortunately passed at birth. She is survived by a son James A Eger (Valicia) of Chambersburg; daughter Heather (Kevin Pittman Sr.) of Waynesboro; four grandchildren Brittany Campbell (Nathan), Marena Lehman, Jaden Eger, and Ashlynn Eger; cousin Larry Fritz, numerous, cousins, and friends.
Peggy Graduated Chambersburg Area Sr. High School 1957. She also obtained a Master’s degree from Shippensburg University in Elementary Education. Peggy taught two years in Bermuda Springs School District, plus two years in Greencastle Antrim School District. Retiring in 2007 from the U.S. Postal Service after 32 years, mostly in St. Thomas. She was a member of the Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary, Martha Custis Chapter #342 Order of the Eastern Star, Willard-Waterman Court #54 Order of the Amaranth, former Royal Matron of the Falling Spring Court #139 Order of the Amaranth, and a volunteer at the Chambersburg Hospital. She was a long time member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home. A Funeral Service is scheduled at 10:00 am for Saturday June 1st, 2024 will be held at 333 Falling Springs Rd. Chambersburg, PA 17202. Reverend John Kratz officiating. A visitation will be held an hour prior at 9:00 am. Burial to follow at the Lincoln Cemetery.
