Phyllis Louise Williams passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026, at her home at Menno Village in Chambersburg, PA.
Born September 17, 1927, in Conemaugh, PA, she was the daughter of James and Mary Grove Meckley and grew up in the Mineral Point area on the family farm.She attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Shippensburg University and continued graduate studies at Saint Francis College.
On November 30, 1948, she married George Warren Williams, who preceded her in death. They made their home in East Taylor Township, where they raised four children: Dr. Larry J. Williams (Carol) of Hermitage, PA; Keith L. Williams (Donna) of Sparta, Wi; Lynne J. Wenrick (Dennis) of Chambersburg, PA; and Kimberly L. Snyder of Collierville, TN.
Phyllis taught elementary school for more than 20 years. A gifted organist and choir director, she shared her musical talents with churches in the Johnstown area for over 50 years.She enjoyed traveling with her husband, wintering in Florida, and cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In addition to her children, she is survived by a sister, Marlyn Leidy (Russell), nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
A time of remembrance and interment will be held Friday, February 27, at 11:00 at Forest Lawn Cemetery Chapel, Johnstown. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA. Condolences and memories may be shared at geiselfuneralhome.com.
