Ray A. Carbaugh, age 80, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away at his home on Saturday, December 13, 2025. Born in South Mountain, PA on July 10, 1945, he was the son of the late Robert F. and Frances L. Sease Carbaugh.
Mr. Carbaugh was a member of the Gettysburg High School class of 1963. He went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army as a combat medic in Europe and Southeast Asia during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and the VFW Post 1599. Mr. Carbaugh enjoyed golfing, fishing, sprint car racing and auctioneering. He worked for several car dealerships in the area, most recently at the former Bob Hoffmann Chevrolet in Mercersburg and lastly at Jennings Chevrolet for 13 years, retiring in 2024.
Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Karen Long Carbaugh, whom he married on May 15, 1980; three children, Gregory Carbaugh of Gettysburg, PA, John Carbaugh of Gettysburg, PA, and Darci Newcomer of Chambersburg, PA; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Gary Carbaugh and Ruby Wetzel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Terry Sease, Steve Staley, Beverly Reed, Donna Shull, and Myrtle Kay Carbaugh.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 10 AM in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Rd. West, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
