Richard W. “Dick” Mohler, 92, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Monday, July 28, 2025 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born May 10, 1933 in Shirleysburg, PA he was the son of the late Jacob and Edna (Conley) Mohler.
Dick served honorably in the United States Army with the 24th Infantry Division during the Korean War from August 10, 1950 until his honorable discharge August 9, 1953. In recognition of his courage and dedication, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was employed as an electronics mechanic at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg. He retired in 1990 after many years of dedicated service.
He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Chambersburg. Dick was a life member of the American Legion Post 107, Mount Union, PA and the VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg. He was also a member of Letterkenny Rod & Gun Club; Tall Cedars Valley Forest #145, Shippensburg, PA; and Orrstown Lodge Consistory. Dick enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, playing racquetball, and square-dancing.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Yvonne “Sue” (Prough) Mohler who he married in 1953; two children, Judy A. Russell (Daniel) of Mt. Holly Springs, PA and Richard “Brian” Mohler of Chambersburg, PA; two granddaughters, Marcia Barnhart and Fawn Gwynn; four great-grandchildren, Jewel Blase, Jacob Thumma, Bre’ya Clopper and Kye Clopper; three great-great-grandchildren, Tanner Depew, Nora Thumma, and Easton Thumma; two sisters, Mary Barger and Peggy Grove; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Patty Mohler and three siblings.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 6, 2025 in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, 3218 Philadelphia Ave, Chambersburg, PA with Pastor Rick Noll officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Honor Guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post #1599, Chambersburg, PA.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM, Wednesday afternoon in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 750 Norland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
