Richard D. Strayer

Richard D. Strayer, 87, of McConnellsburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Mercy House of Chambersburg. He was born on September 1, 1938, in Chambersburg, PA to the late John L. and Zelda (Shade) Strayer.

Richard was a graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School and was employed by Caterpillar Inc. as a Manufacturing Systems Engineer. He was a member of the Amvets Post #224, Burt J. Asper American Legion Post # 46, and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, all in Chambersburg, PA.

He is survived by his son Richard C. Strayer (Tammy) of McConnellsburg, PA; grandchildren Libby A. Strayer and Abby N. Strayer; great-grandson Brooks; sister Vonnie Upperman of Edenville, PA; a sister-in-law, Genie Kell; a brother-in-law, Robert McCleary (Jan); nephews, James Kell (Beth), Mark McCleary, and Charlie Upperman; and niece, Lisa Woodams. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara A. (McCleary) Strayer, brothers John W. Strayer and Ronald Strayer, sister Diane Sipes, and great-grandson Braddix.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 750 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Pastor Mindi Gochnaur officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the church.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA.
