Ronald L. Shatzer, 86, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Saturday, February 7, 2026 in Magnolias of Chambersburg where he has resided for the last two years. Born July 27, 1939, in St. Thomas, PA he was the son of the late Lester and Helen (Kegerreis) Shatzer.
He was a graduate of St. Thomas High School with the Class of 1957. Following graduation Ron went on to serve with the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1961. Ron was employed as a computer programmer for LSSA at Letterkenny Army Depot through his career, retiring in 1993 after many years of service.
He was an active member of Letterkenny Rod and Gun Club. Ron was also a member of the Chambersburg Club, Marine Corps League, AMVETS Post 224, VFW Post 1599, and American Legion Post 46 all in Chambersburg. He was an avid golfer and outdoorsman who loved hunting.
Ron is survived by his son, Samuel L. Shatzer and his wife Pamela of Chambersburg; a grandson, Casey Shatzer; four siblings, Eugene Shatzer of St. Thomas, Pauline Helfrick of Chambersburg, Patsy Shaffer and her husband Darryl of Greencastle, PA, and Jane Culbertson of Chambersburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Janet L. (Eckenrode) Shatzer who passed away June 29, 2021; an infant sister, Darlene Lousie Shatzer; and his beloved dog, Ziggy.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the staff and caregivers at Magnolias of Chambersburg and especially Pauline McMullen for all her care and compassion over the years.
Services will be held 1:00 PM, Thursday, February 12, 2026, in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Rev. Dianne Salter officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg where military honors will be conducted by members of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until the start of the service in the funeral home Thursday.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to something very near to Ron’s heart, his grandson, Casey’s, travel baseball team: Renegades Baseball, 2894 Leafmore Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
