Roy Burkholder

November 4, 1943 — January 30, 2024

Roy E. Burkholder, 80, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Chambersburg, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Born November 4, 1943 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Clarence and Grace Flohr Burkholder. His beloved wife, Gwendolyn Burkhardt Burkholder, preceded him in death on November 11, 2011.
Roy was employed by Hempt Brothers, Inc. in Camp Hill for over 20 years until his retirement. He worked in construction, as a truck driver and in the tire shop. He was also a licensed dynamiter. Roy was a very active member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Harrisburg Chapter 552, and Tyrian Lodge No. 205 F. & A.M. He enjoyed the outdoors, model trains, antique tractors and tractor shows.
He is survived by two children, Melissa Swartz (husband Martin) of Mifflin, PA, and Kevin Burkholder (Stacy Wagner); four grandchildren, Althea (Christopher Robinson) and Ashley Swartz, and Kyle and Kole Bowersox; one great grandson, Zane Robinson; and two siblings, Melvin Burkholder (wife Margaret) of Chambersburg, PA, and Karen Sloan of Waynesboro, PA. Aside from his parents and wife, Roy was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Burkholder.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 5, 2024 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Beth Nonemaker will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Masonic services will be conducted by Tyrian Lodge No. 205 F. & A.M. and Eastern Star services will be provided by Order of the Eastern Star Harrisburg Chapter 552.
