Ruby Grace (Snider) Patterson, age 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 25, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 31, 1928, in Hamilton Township to the late Paul F. Snider and Ruth (Coble) Snider. Ruby was a graduate of the Chambersburg High School Class of 1947.
She married Alvin Patterson on June 26, 1948, and they had three children: Joanne Secrest (Bill), Larry Patterson (Sue), and Brenda Hill (Jim). She is also survived by five grandchildren: Amy Wimer (Jamie), Rachel Bates (James), Jesse Hill (fiancée Katie Knowles), Laura Hill (fiancé Matthew Silverman), and Jacob Hill; three great-grandchildren: Cody Martin (Quinn), Hunter Hill, and Trevor Hill; two great great-grandchildren, Adalynn and Cashton Martin; and several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Alvin, in 2015; siblings, Paul Snider, Glen Snider, Ida Snider, and Jere Snider; and two granddaughters, Taryn Wildeson and Melissa Patterson.
Ruby was a loyal servant of St. Thomas Lutheran Church. She served as youth Sunday School teacher, church treasurer, and church council member; as well as being active in their adult Sunday School Class activities for many years. For over 20 years, Ruby worked alongside Alvin on their dairy farm. She also loved to drive the school bus for elementary and high school students for the Chambersburg school district for over 26 years. Her favorite pastimes were travel, reading her Bible, puzzles, Sudoku, fishing for flounder at Chincoteague with her husband and friends, going to the beach with family, and most of all, making big dinners for the whole family which always included a dessert buffet.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11 AM at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 7061 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA 17202, where Pastor Matt Kayhart will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the above church and address. Interment will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L.
