Ruth K. (Knoll) Shannon, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on August 29, 2026, at Chambers Pointe Healthcare Center. She was born on November 22, 1929, in Letterkenny Township, the daughter of the late Howard B and Kathryn (Herr) Knoll. She was the widow of Samuel E. Shannon Jr., who preceded her in death on January 4, 2011.
A 1949 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, she had been employed at Nibble with Gibble’s for 16 years, retiring in 1996. She was a member of King Street U.B. Church and the Buds of Promise Sunday School Class. Ruth served in the kindergarten and nursery department for many years and as nursery chairman for 15 years. She was also a volunteer with Rhodes Grove Camp and the Release Time Bible Program of JoyEl Ministries.
Ruth will be remembered with love by her family. She is survived by her children, Judith Eckenrode (husband Richard) of Chambersburg, Tina Mentzer (husband Perry) of Greencastle, and Paul Shannon (wife Cindy) of Greencastle; five grandchildren, Anthony Eckenrode, Dusty Jo Cradduck (husband Justin), Marshall Mentzer (wife Cheyanne), Levi Mentzer, and Ruby Smith (husband Tyler); two sisters, Margaret Huber and Arlene Graham (husband Donald), both of Chambersburg. Aside from her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Shannon; and five siblings, Melvin Knoll, Evelyn Hoover, Glenn Knoll, Hazel Knoll, and Donald Knoll. Ruth’s family and friends will hold close the memory of her steady faith, her years of service, and the care she gave to those around her.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 3, 2026, in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Pastor Ron Cook and Pastor Becky Hann will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Norland Cemetery. Friends may visit from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday evening and for one hour before the service on Thursday.
