Thomas R. Diehl, Sr.

Thomas R. Diehl, Sr., 86, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. Born May 21, 1940, in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Wilbur and Margaret (Peters) Diehl. His beloved wife, Karen S. (Shatzer) Diehl, preceded him in death by just 15 hours on Monday, October 5, 2026.

Tom was a graduate of CASHS and later graduated from Chambersburg Business School. He spent his entire career in the banking industry, serving as President of Chambersburg Trust Company and later as President of Citizens National Bank in Greencastle, retiring in 2001. Throughout his life, Tom believed in giving back to the community he called home. He generously volunteered his time with Habitat for Humanity, served on the Greene Township Planning Committee, and was a volunteer firefighter with CV Hose Company in Chambersburg. He was also a member of the Lions Club and an active member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and helped count the offerings.

While Tom took great pride in his career and service to others, his greatest joy was his family. He enjoyed golfing, spending his winters in Naples, FL, and, most of all, spending time with those he loved. He was a proud and devoted grandfather who could often be found cheering on his grandchildren at their many sporting events. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his three children, Christine Shively and husband Randy of Chambersburg, Kelly Zambetti and husband Gary of Venice, FL; and Thomas R. Diehl, Jr. and wife Lydia of Shippensburg; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren (on the way); and two brothers, Frank Diehl, and Gerald Diehl and wife Vickie. Aside from his wife and parents, Tom was preceded in death by his two sisters, Marguerite Kneavel and her husband John; and Janet Smith and her husband Burnell.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Fr. Allan Wolfe will serve as celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the Mass. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA. The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to Tom.
