Walter S. Greenwood, Jr., 90, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Chambers Pointe Healthcare Center. Born June 9, 1935 in Newark, NJ, he was a son of the late Walter S. Greenwood, Sr., and Mabel Busse Greenwood.
A US Air Force veteran, Walter served honorably for 20 years from 1958-1978 until his retirement at the rank of Lt. Colonel. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Newark College and later earned his master’s degree in Astronautics from the Air Force Institute of Technology in Dayton, OH. After his service in the Air Force, Walter was employed as Electrical Engineer. He enjoyed writing poetry and had a book of poems published. He was a member of The Open Door Church in Chambersburg and in his spare time enjoyed model trains.
He is survived by his wife Barbara J. Homes Greenwood of Chambersburg; three children, John Greenwood and wife Brenda of Pepperell, MA, David Greenwood and wife Pam of Smithburg, MD, and Nancy Greenwood of Marietta, GA; two grandchildren, Kyle Greenwood and wife Hailey and Lauren Greenwood; and one brother, Frank G. Greenwood of CO.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, September 29, 2025, in the Chambers Pointe Chapel, 1425 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Condolences and memories may be shared at geiselfuneralhome.com.
